Instructions & Help

Objectives

This course is designed to help participants:

  • Identify common causes of emotional tension.
  • Establish a personal "Bill of Rights"
  • Remember strategies for setting limits with coworkers.
  • Effectively give and receive criticism.
  • Recognize appropriate responses to stressful scenarios.
  • Develop effective tactical responses to various personality types.

The Lessons

  • The course material is divided into 5 lessons outlined in the column on the right.
  • Each lesson may take up to two hours to complete on average (NOTE: The first lesson is the longest, so most people will find that they can move through the remaining lessons much more quickly than that.)
  • A number of the lessons include "Fil-in-the-Blank" exercises designed to help stimulate thinking about the subject and personalize the information for your own situation.
    • You are not required to keep or submit this information to complete the course.
    • Anything you write in these blanks does not leave the computer you are working on.
    • In fact, if you wish to keep the information you type for future reference, you must print it BEFORE you move to another page as the program does not store it in any form once you move on.
  • The navigation column on the left side of each page has links to the starting point for each lesson as well as Help and support pages.
  • Within each lesson, the column on the right entitled"About this Lesson" has topic summaries and links to each segment of that lesson.
  • A link at the bottom of each lesson page will take you to the next lesson in the sequence.
  • A progress bar at the top of each lesson page will show you where you are in that lesson to help you gauge your progress.
  • Feel free to start and stop at any time convenient for you.

Optional Companion Audio

Anytime you see an audio control bar similar to the one on the right, it's a sign that we have included audio recordings from workshop sessions that provide real-world insight to support the text in this course. These segments include personal anecdotes and professional experiences from Ms. Moramarco's years in nursing and supervisory positions that we believe will help bring to life the insights and strategies presented here. Although many of the audio segments are directed at nurses, we believe that the concepts they represent are universal.

Because not everyone has audio capabilities on their computer, it is possible to complete the course without these segments. To hear the audio, you will need:

  • A Windows (98/NT/2000/XP) PC with audio card and speakers or Apple Macintosh (OS9 or OSX) computer
  • Free QuickTime Player or Windows Media Player installed
  • Fast Internet connection such as cable or broadband; minimum 56KB dial-up connection or the CD version of this course to run locally on your computer.

The Test

We have provided a multiple-choice self test as a study aid and evaluation tool for earning continuing education credit. We recommend that you go to that section and print it out so that you can go through the questions as you go through the lessons.

CEU Credit

This course is approved for 10 Contact Hours for Registered Nurses. For those of you using the course for continuing education credit, we have provided a post test for you to take.  Upon successful completion of the self-study test (with 24 correct answers) participants will be awarded a continuing education certificate. After you've completed the exam, mail the completed test to:

Taylor College
Attn: CEU Test Department
P.O. Box 93663
Los Angeles, CA 90093

Once the exam is scored, you'll receive a certificate for your continuing education credits if you have at least 24 correct answers.
